K-Pop Friday, this time with 10 percent more national pride!

While I walked through the courtyard of my school at my school, I saw nine fifth graders practicing a synchronized dance. They were completely serious about nailing each move at the exact moment. The full effect was just downright silly. And that is what I love about K-Pop videos. The dances are silly, but don’t ever doubt their mass appeal.

About 2.5 seconds after witnessing this scene, I was swarmed by students grabbing for my corn pizza and mini can of coke. But that is another story.

Today’s K-Pop videos are brought to you by Hyundai. Because, in Korea, what part of pop culture isn’t connected to a giant multi-national corporation? (psst. the answere is none. At least from my casual observations)

This song is for the World Cup of 2010 in South Africa. It is starting soon. Perhaps this weekend? I’m not entirely sure, because I have never been one to follow sports. Anyway. In this video is the hip hop group Big Bang, leaded by my favorite spritely heartthrob G-Dragon. Joining Big Bang is Queen Yuna. Don’t even call her Kim Yuna anymore. She is the appointed Queen of Korea now. Being the best ice skater ever gets you these privileges. She might do a better job reunifying Korea than President Lee Myung-Bak, because who can resist her sweet demeanor and killer triple axel?

Shout for the Reds! Yeah! Go reds! Wait? What? Surely someone told them that in the west we think of the reds as the communists, right? The sworn enemies of this capitalist society. No? Ok moving on.

You better believe I already have memorized the dance from that video. I expect everyone to be dancing in sync a la my 5th grade girls when I return home. Here is a short “how to” video. Get practicing!
